Carrie Elizabeth Wachter, lifelong resident of Glasgow, passed away at the

daughter of the late Casper J. and Olga (Nuhn) Wachter and was born on May 8, 1910, in Glasgow, Missouri. She received her education in the Glasgow public school system and graduated from Glasgow High School in 1928.  After high school, Carrie worked as a telephone operator until she was hired on May1, 1943, as  librarian of the Lewis Library. She faithfully worked as the librarian for 48 years before retiring in 1991. The Children’s Reading Room is  named in her honor.Carrie Wachter was a devoted member of the Evangelical United BrethrenChurch and the United Methodist Church in Glasgow. She and her sister, Dorothy, taught Sunday School for many years and served the church and other organizations in countless ways.

Carrie was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Wachter; her parents, Casper and Olga (Nuhn) Wachter; her brother, Robert Wachter and her sister, Mary Wachter Ireland from her father’s first marriage to Fannie H.  Carrie spent the last years of her life at the Golden Living Center in Glasgow
where she enjoyed visiting with people, playing dominoes, and attending church
services. She was lovingly cared for by the Center’s staff, and her family is
very appreciative of their kindness and consideration.

Carrie Wachter most enjoyed reaching the grand age of 100 and her centennial
birthday celebration in 2010 and all the festivities leading up to it were some
of her happiest days in recent years.

Carrie and her sister Dorothy were unique and talented individuals, who gave so much to the Glasgow community throughout their lives. They were very special ladies, truly one of a kind, and will be greatly missed.
