Marvin Baldwin

1919 – 2011

Ernest Marvin Baldwin passed away at his home in Glasgow on January 20, 2011.  He was 91 years of age.

Ernest Marvin Baldwin was born on January 21, 1919 to Albert Pierce and Eva (Dobson) Baldwin in Bentonia, MS.  He attended elementary school until 3rd grade when his father passed away and he had to work to help support his family.

On June 13, 1944, Pvt. Marvin Baldwin entered into active service as a part of Company B in 20th Armored Infantry Division.  He fought heroically in the European Campaign during WWII.  Marvin was part of the second wave of armed forces landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day and he sustained a leg wound which resulted in a Purple Heart at the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium.

Marvin was an active member of Glasgow’s American Legion Post 211, St. Mary’s Church, and the VFW.  He loved fishing and gardening.  Marvin will be remembered for his generosity, how he contributed and donated to numerous groups and organizations and how he always helped those in need.

Marvin is survived by two daughters; Patricia Baldwin of Warsaw, MO and Vickie Collier of Olathe, KS, one son; Marvin E. Baldwin of Kansas City, KS, one brother; Roy Baldwin of West Moreland, TN, close friend of 34 years, Tammie McMillan and family of Glasgow, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers.

Services for Mr. Baldwin will be 11am Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at St. Mary’s Church in Glasgow with Fr. Joseph Shetler officiating.  Visitation will be one hour before the service.  Burial with military honors will be in Washington Cemetery with Logan and David McMillan, Michael, Tony and Terry Lackland, and Ronnie Prentzler serving as pallbearers, and Esco Collier serving as an honorary pallbearer.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in care of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service, 112 Market St. Glasgow, MO 65254.
