Frank Rigg

1930 - 2011

Francis (Frank) William Rigg, 80, passed away at Golden Living Center in Glasgow on June 7, 2011.

Mr. Rigg was born November 7, 1930 to Robert and Elanor (Crouch) Rigg in Winnetonka, MO. He attended school in Kansas City and decided to enlist in the U.S. Army one year shy of graduation. On February 12, 1954, he married Darlene Suttner in Kansas City, MO. She preceded him in death March 22, 1991.

Frank was a firefighter in Kansas City, Mo for 14 years.  A veteran of the famous Southwest Boulevard Fire of 1959 in Kansas City, his firefighting career was cut short in 1967 when he suffered a heart attack on the job. Afterwards, he owned and operated the Keg in Glasgow, worked as a custodian at Glasgow High School, worked at the Higbee Coal Mine, Kellwood Manufacturing, Glasgow Sand Plant and Glasgow Rock Quarries. He was a life member of the Glasgow American Legion Post 211 and Glasgow VFW.

He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth and husband Scott Rigg of South Portland, ME and Susan Rigg of Armstrong, two sons, Frank and wife Debbie Rigg of Long Lane, MO and John and wife Jennifer Rigg of Buckley, WA, 11 grandchildren, Ben and David Ewing, Julia Gebhardt Costigan, Chris, Maggie and Monica Gebhardt, John R. Rigg, Christina Rigg, Caitlin Rigg and Matt and Sara Rigg, three step-granddaughters, Jessica Gebhardt Perry, Leah Gebhardt Keeran, and Maia Gebhardt, two great grandchildren, Brooklynn and Quinn, half-sister, Kathryne Stuck of Sands Springs, OK. Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Fred, William and Robert, two sisters, Gertrude and Margaret.

A funeral mass will be 11 AM, Friday, June 10, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Shetler officiating. Visitation will be Thursday evening 6 to 8 PM at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Chapel in Glasgow with a Rosary being said at 7:30 PM. Burial will be in Washington Cemetery.
