Himmelberg

Long time
Glasgow resident George Martin Himmelberg
passed away July 3, 2011 at
Boone Hospital Center in
Columbia . He was 90 years of age.
Mr.
Himmelberg was born September 23, 1920 in
Aholt , MO to George William and Mary Tebbe
Himmelberg. He attended Aholt School till eighth
grade and helped his family on the family farm in
the
Chariton County Bottoms. George served as a
Medical Aidman in the United States Army during WW
II receiving four Bronze Stars for his campaigns in
Europe .
After returning to the States he married Viola
Brucks November 5, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Glasgow . George worked as an implement
dealer for International Harvester working for
Wolston’s Brothers and Hollenbeck’s before
purchasing the Glasgow business in 1960’s. He also
worked at Finnell Manion and Ruether Chevrolet for
several years. Mr. Himmelberg served on the
Glasgow City Council for 20 years and was
Mayor for eleven. He was a member of St. Mary’s
Church.
Besides his wife of the home George is survived by
two daughters, Connie and husband Bob Hutchin of
Lee’s Summit, MO and Nancy and husband Ken
Mellard of
Leawood, KS, one son, Jerry Himmelberg and
Kerry Thompson of
Kansas City, MO, one son-in-law, Bobby Parks
of Glasgow and sister-in-law, Rosina Himmelberg of
Glasgow, nine grandchildren, Brian, Kristin, Tim,
Leah, Brent, Rachel, Michelle, Kelly and Kasie, nine
great grandchildren, Emma, Ellie,
Sydney, McKenna, Kennedy, Jordan, Mason,
Jacob and Jackson. Besides his parents, he was
preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Parks,
daughter-in-law, Betty Himmelberg and four brothers,
Edward, Albert, Irvin and Melvin, four sisters,
Frances, Viola, Mary and Gladys.
A
funeral Mass will be
10 AM, Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at St. Mary’s
Church with Father Joseph Shetler officiating and
Father Jerry Stockman Con-Celebrating. A visitation
will be
5 to 8 PM Tuesday evening at Friemonth-Freese
Funeral Home in Glasgow with a Rosary at
4:30 PM and a Vilgil at
8 PM. Burial with military honors will be in
Washington Cemetery .
