County Commissioner, Howard Payne Black passed away
December 8, 2011 at Golden Living Center. He was 83
years of age.
Mr. Black was born December 16,
1927 in East St. Louis, IL to Edwin and Pearl Maupin
Black. He graduated from Glasgow High School in
1947. Howard and Gloria W. Crowley were married
October 14, 1951 at the Methodist Parsonage in
Glasgow. He served in the United States Army from
195 to 1957. Howard farmed most of his life and
served as the Western District Howard County
Commissioner for 15 years retiring in 2009. He was a
member of the Richland Christian Church, Missouri
County Commissioner’s Association, American Legion
and the Glasgow Co-Op Board. He was a big part of
establishing the FFA auctions at Glasgow High
School.
Besides his wife of 60 years,
he is survived by two sons, Douglas and wife, Eliane
Q de A Black of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Curtis
and his wife, Cindy Black of Glasgow, one sister,
Rachel Richmond of Boonville, four grandchildren,
Christopher and Meg Black and Corey and Kayla Black.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one
sister, Loretta Meyer.
Funeral services will be
2 PM, Monday, December 12 at the
Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow with Revs.
James Crooks and Don White officiating. Visitation
will be one hour before the service. Burial with
military honors will be at Rosehill Cemetery south
of Glasgow with Marvin Hilgedick, Gary Dillon,
Scott, Tracy, Rodney and Curtis Sanders, Gary
Stallman, Andy Diehls and Dennis Meyer serving as
pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Lowell Eaton,
Bill Lay, Terry Sanders, James Conrow, Bert Hilden,
Stanley and Billy Clark, Jim Ferguson and Allen
Boggs.
