James L. Johnson

1932 – 2011

 

 

James L. Johnson of Glasgow passed away at his home on April 11, 2011.  He was 78 years of age.

 

James was born in Glasgow to Francis and Emma (Johanning) Johnson on August 13, 1932.  He graduated from Glasgow High School in 1950. James married Marilyn Newton in Moberly, MO on September 3, 1956.  She preceded him in death on February 2, 2004.  Mr. Johnson built fences and farmed most of his life.  He was a long time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a member of the American Legion Post 211, and he loved fishing and gardening.

 

He is survived by one son; Jeffry (Susan) Johnson of Fayette, three daughters; Cathy (Dennis) Daniels of Fayette, Deanne (Dale) Simmons of Glasgow, Elizabeth (Robby) Felton of Fayette, two brothers; Kenneth Johnson of Kansas City, MO and Dale Johnson of Glasgow, and one sister; Judy Morris of Muskogee, OK.  He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  Besides his parents and wife, James was preceded in death by two children, Christopher and Debbie, and three brothers, Jerry, Johnny, and Larry.

 

Services for Mr. Johnson will be at 10 AM Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Shetler officiating.  A visitation will be held at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Chapel in Glasgow on Tuesday, April 12, from 6-8 PM with a Rosary starting at 7:30.  Burial will follow the funeral service at Washington Cemetery with Rodney Felten, Grant Thies, Nolan Kurtz, James Simmons, Kelton Clements, and Dennis Daniels serving as pallbearers.
