Jack Kean

1923 -2012

 

Fayette resident Jack Robert Kean passed away at Fayette Caring Center January 31, 2012.  He was 88 years of age.

Mr. Kean was born December 12, 1923 in Wheeling, IL to Everett Thomas and Dorothy Ida (Nelson) Kean.  He graduated from Lowry City High School in Illinois.  Jack served in the Army for four years during WW II attaining the rank of staff sergeant.  As mess sergeant, he once served General George Patton in his mess hall.  Following his discharge from the army, he worked at the family pool hall in Fayette for 20 years.  Jack spent 40 years as an auto body repair man, with 35 years at Moon Motors in Fayette.  He married Pansy Scribner July 23, 1967 in Florissant, MO and she survives of the home as well as his two daughters, Michelle and her husband Larry Ishmael of Columbia and Melody and her husband, Skip Vandelicht of Fayette, two grandchildren, Adrian (Bryan) Newell and Matthew (Jennifer) Vandelicht and four great grandchildren, Addison, Caden, Chase and Drew, three brothers, Ralph (Martha) Kean of Kansas City, MO, Jim (Rachael) Lynch of Lees Summit and Austin (Wanda) Lynch of Fayette, two sisters, Dorothy (Jack) Obbink of Independence and Eileen Potter of Kansas City, MO and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

In his spare time, Jack enjoyed outdoor activities including camping, boat riding, gardening, mowing, playing snooker, working on old cars and taking Sunday drives with his wife and two daughters.  Jack loved spending time with his family, especially being Papa to his two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 2:30 PM, Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette with Rev. Paula Ritchie officiating.  Visitation will be from 1 PM to the time of the service.  Memorials are suggested to the Fayette First Christian Church in care of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service, 174 Hwy 5 & 240 N Fayette, MO 65248.
