Melvin Holtwick
1925 – 2011
Glasgow resident Melvin Edward Holtwick
passed away at Golden Living Center June
21, 2011. He was 85 years of age.
Mr. Holtwick was born July 25, 1925 in
Aholt , MO to Walter E. and Wilma
(Brand) Holtwick. He attended Aholt
School . Melvin was a
Ball Turret Gunner in a B-17 in
the Army Air Corps during WW II and flew
in 35 combat missions over Europe . He
received an air medal with one silver
oak leaf and one bronze star. He
married Dorothy May Brucks February 14,
1952 at St. Mary’s Church in Glasgow .
Melvin worked as a groundman for Kansas
City Power and Light Co. for several
years, worked at Kellwood Manufacturing
23 years retiring in 1988, worked at the
Monnig Grape Farm and with the Glasgow
Museum for a number of years. Melvin
was a member of St. Mary’s Church,
Glasgow
American Legion and V.F.W.
Mr. Holtwick is survived by his wife of
the home, four daughters, Karen and
husband Charlie Monnig of Glasgow, Patty
Hellebusch of
Russellville, MO, Cindy Holtwick
of
Kansas City, MO and Judy Holtwick
of Glasgow, one son, Roger Holtwick of
Marshall, three grandchildren, Donna
(Jason) Vega, Adam (Candice) Monnig and
Kathy Monnig and three great
grandchildren, Jacob, Seth and Alexis.
Besides his parents he was preceded in
death by two brothers, Jerome and Gene
Holtwick.
A funeral Mass will be
10 AM, June 24, 2011 at St.
Mary’s
Catholic Church with Father
Joseph Shetler officiating. Visitation
will be
6 to 8 PM, June 23 at the
Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in
Glasgow with a Prayer Service at
7:30 PM. Burial with military
honors will follow the service in
Washington Cemetery with Adam Monnig,
Jason Vega, Phillip Monnig, Bob Hutchin,
Greg White and Greg Brucks
serving as pallbearers.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s
Church or School in care of the
funeral home.
