Phillip Gustave Thierfelder, Jr.
1925 – 2011
Glasgow’s number one weather predictor and
basketball fan, Phillip Gustave Thierfelder, Jr., passed away
December 4, 2011 at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. He was
85 years of age.
Phillip was born in Saline County near the
Cambridge Township, December 16, 1925 to Philip G. and Lorena
(Herrmann) Thierfelder. He graduated from Gilliam High School
and served in the United States Navy during WWII. Phillip and
Mildred E. McMillan were married December 9, 1945 at the E.U.B.
Chapel in Glasgow. He worked for the Corps of Engineers for 30
years retiring in 1974. Mr. Thierfelder was a life time member
of the VFW and American Legion of which he was a past commander.
An avid Cardinal baseball and Mizzou fan, he enjoyed all
sports, especially Glasgow basketball and could always be found
seated behind the Glasgow bench. He and Mildred were voted
Glasgow basketball super fans in the 92-93 seasons. Phillip
was presented the KWIX-KRES Weather Observer Award in 1993. He
served on the Howard County Republican Committee. Phillip was a
member of the Glasgow United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred, of 66
years, two daughters, Sharon and her husband, Leo Himmelberg and
Sandy and her husband, Michael Brand, all of Glasgow, four
grandchildren, Stacie (Daniel) Finke of Moberly, Shelly
Himmelberg of Glasgow, Megan Brand of Columbia and Jessica
(Matthew) Elson of Armstrong, seven great grandchildren, Taylor,
Thomas, Sophia, Joseph, Phillip, Miles and Isabel. Besides his
parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Donald, one
granddaughter and one great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be 11 AM, Thursday,
December 8, 2011 at the E.U.B. Chapel with Rev. James Crooks
officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM Wednesday evening at
the Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow. Burial will be in
Washington Cemetery.
