Paul Ballew

1923 – 2011

 

Fayette resident, Paul Marion Ballew, 88, died Thursday, December 1, 2011, at Boone Hospital Center.  He was born February 16, 1923 to Willie Weldon and Jewell Angelia (Grady) Ballew.

He married Martha Louise Earl on March 16, 1947 in Fayette, Missouri.  She survives in the family home.  Paul served his country in the United States Naval Air Force and was honorably discharged in May of 1946.

Paul was a well-known farmer and carpenter in the Howard County area.  He was also a good friend to many and well-respected in the community.  He was a member of the Moniteau Chapel Church.  He most cherished his family and sharing a laugh with his friends over a cup of coffee or a game of croquet.

Survivors include three children: Brenda J. Hilgedick and husband, Marvin; Mardell Wies and husband, Billy; Bart Ballew and wife, Tammy, grandchildren, Chris Diehls and wife, Julie; Angie Conrow and husband, Jamie; Jenny Vroman and husband, Nathan; Clint Wies and wife, Carlei; Casey Ballew and wife, Tracie; Carrie Heath and husband, Jason, step-grandchildren, Shane Hilgedick and wife, Charice, Jared Housewright and wife, Brandi, Ashley Housewright, Travis Thompson and wife Jakie, and 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Other survivors include, his brother, Bill Ballew of Settle, Washington, his sister, Barbara Shubert of Butler, MO, and a sister-in-law, Mary Opal Wiswall of Columbia, MO.

Besides his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his brother, Harold and a great grandson, Charles Diehls and a nephew, Jim Wiswall.

Funeral services will be 2 PM, Monday, December 5, 2011 at the Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette with Rev. Harold Young officiating.  Visitation will be 3 to 6 PM, Sunday at the funeral home.  Burial with military honors will be in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
