Wanda Thies

1937 - 2011

Wanda Dolores Thies passed away at her home in Glasgow July 24, 2011 as a result of cancer.  She was 73 years of age.

 Mrs. Thies was born September 4, 1937 to Albert F. and Kathryn E. Abeln Widmer.  She graduated from St. Joseph High School in Salisbury, MO, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Benedictine College in Atchison, Ks and a Medical Technologist Degree MT(ASCP) from St. Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO.  She married Henry (Hank) Francis Thies April 15, 1961 in Salisbury, MO.  Wanda worked as a Medical Technologist at St. Mary’s Hospital, Cooper County Hospital and 27 years at Boyce & Bynum Laboratories retiring in 2002.  She worked at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home until the time of her death.   She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, recently helping with the church renovation campaign.  She often was the lector for scripture readings and she also enjoyed quilting with the ladies of the church.   She was a volunteer at the Glasgow Food Pantry and was always willing to help if someone needed her.

 Survivors include her husband, Hank of 50 years, her son, Russ Thies of Bloomfield, IN; her daughter, Terri and husband Thomas McGrath; three granddaughters, Lucia, Sasha and Callie McGrath all of Alpharetta, GA  three sisters,  Karen and husband Norman McFadden of Salisbury, Donna Widmer of Columbia, Linda Flaspohler of Moberly; two brothers, Wayne and wife Therese Widmer of Columbia and Dale and wife Dana Widmer of Salisbury; Brother-in-Law and Sister-in-Law, Tony and Aileen Thies of Glasgow and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Kenny Widmer and two nephews, Curtis McFadden and Frank Rodgers.

 A funeral mass will be 10 AM, Thursday, July 28, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glasgow with Father Joseph Shetler officiating.  Visitation will be 5 to 8 PM Wednesday evening at the Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home with a Rosary being said at 5 PM.
